Stafford resident Janice Scott, 61, was taken into custody after she was caught while attempting to steal food on three separate occasions in the past two months, this time providing a false ID.
Deputies from the Stafford County Sherif's Office were called to Walmart on Garrisonville Road shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Sunday night, where there was a reported shoplifting incident that was in progress involving a woman familiar to the police.
A responding sergeant found a woman who matched the description provided by employees walking away from the store, and when approached, initially denied stealing anything.
Scott then refused to provide an identity, but eventually relented, claiming that she was the daughter of the Hall of Famer, striking out after that was swiftly debunked.
According to investigators, it was later discovered that Scott had been linked to two other shoplifting incidents in October, and in this instance, she was found to be in possession of stolen meat, cheese, and crackers.
Scott was charged with:
- Three counts of shoplifting;
- Felony second offense identity theft to avoid arrest;
- Providing a false identity to law enforcement;
- Unlawful name change.
She was held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $2,000 secured bond.
